TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) is a form of Chinese medical therapy that has been practiced traditionally for more than 5000 years. TCM is based on accumulated medical knowledge through many centuries of observation, investigation, and clinical experiences. In TCM theory, disease is an expression of the whole person — body, mind and spirit — in relation to the environment. Chinese medicine doesn’t just treat isolated symptoms in isolated body parts. It gently encourages an awareness of the self as a whole, which in turn promotes strength and healing. Its main therapeutic treatments are acupuncture, and herbal remedies, augmented by guidance on proper diet and exercise.
Acupuncture is a safe and very effective natural therapy that is used to heal illnesses, prevent disease and improve well being. It is a method within TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine), which consists of inserting tiny, hair-thin needles into specific points along which “Qi” flows in the body. The points used are carefully chosen to disperse any blockages and bring the energy into balance. The needles may be gently stimulated to trigger the body's natural healing response.
Based on TCM theory, there are about 360 acupuncture points that runs deeply within the body tissue from head to toe. These points are connected via 14 invisible channels and collaterals. “Qi” which referred to as life force that flow via these channels helps regulate all physical and mental activities. Each acupuncture point(also called meridian) are associated with and capable of affecting organs such as liver, spleen, heart, kidney, reproductive system, etc. By stimulating the appropriate points, it helps restore the flow of energy to keep one balanced.
Some common ailments Kathy has treated with high success rate:
- stress, insomnia, anxiety
- gynecological conditions, PMS, menopause, infertility
- migraine headache
- allergies
- chronic coughs
- digestive disorders
- palpitation
- back pain, neck/shoulder pain, chronic pain, sciatica
- alleviating side effects of chemotherapy
The procedure is painless. Tiny hair thin disposable needles are placed on the body to balance your natural energy. It has been described as feeling a mosquito bite.
The World Health Organization has stated that "acupuncture treatment is safe if it is performed properly by a well trained practitioner. Unlike many drugs, it is non toxic, and adverse reactions are minimal". Kathy uses only pre-sterilized, ultra thin disposable needles that are discarded after one use.
Many insurance companies now do provide acupuncture coverage. We advise you check your group benefit package for more information. BetterBody clinic can bill your insurance company directly if you are covered.
Cash, Debit, Visa and Mastercard are the accepted forms of payment.
It depends on the individual and what ailments are being treated. For most chronic conditions, 6 – 8 sessions tend to offer the best results. Since every individual has a different constitution, some can benefit after 1 session and others may take more cumulative sessions to notice the benefits. For infertility cases with those undergoing complementary IVF or IUI cases, ideally a head start of 2-3 months, otherwise any treatments prior to the process would be beneficial.
Cupping therapy is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) that require placement of glass, plastic or bamboo cu
ps on the skin with a vacuum. The therapy is used to relieve what is called stagnation in TCM terms, and is helpful in the treatment of back, neck, shoulder and other muscular pain. It is also useful for respiratory diseases such as common cold, pneumonia, and bronchitis.
